Answers:

1. Everything is Brazilian Rosewood apart from the 3lb lead weight in the weight capsule the bearings and a piece of plasticine in the pendulum for timing purposes. The centre arbour is carried on two FAG ballbearings. The other arbours have a steel pin set in the end and these run in nylon bushes.

2. The clock runs for 30 hrs per winding, the weight capsule is filled with 3lb of lead.

3. Gear teeth are standard involute form. You can get details of the form from any engineering gear cutting documentation. The library will have something. It is worth bearing in mind that wood expands and contracts more than metal and therefore extra clearance should be cut on the teeth. You also have the eccentric bearings carrying the axles to facilitate adjustment of running clearance.

4. I have heard of people sawing and filing every individual tooth but this must be very time consuming. I would recommend at the very least a fly cutter made from high speed steel ground to take out the tooth shape. Such a cutter set in a pillar drill can do the job. You also need to make a device to carry the gear blank and pass it by the fly cutter. Finally you should make an indexing plate to use with the device for indexing the blank ready for cutting subsequent teeth.

5. We build the clocks for between £3000 and £4000 each.

6. It takes us approximately 130 hours to make a clock. This does not mean that a clock will be built for a customer in three weeks or three months. We have a six months waiting list at the moment.

7. No, but that does not mean we will never produce the clock in kit form. We are aware that some clients may wish us to produce unfinished gears with all the teeth pre-cut. We could do this but only if the market demands it. Email and Ask!

8. Imperial plans will be a long time off but that there is no problem converting the sizes by dividing the metric dimensions by 25.4 or by actually taking Imperial measurements directly off the plans as they are all full size.

9. The plans we produce are for the clocks you see on our web-site. Our plans, like our clocks are of the highest quality. They contain the comprehensive detail we consider necessary to make the best possible clock. Every component is individually dimensioned and represented in at least two views. We are selling them for about 1 % of the cost of an actual clock.

10. No. We do not propose to sell our plans digitally. We feel it would be too easy to copy our work.

11. Not in the near future although we understand the peace of mind electronic transfer of funds, such as Visa, gives to the customer.
